Festival of Trees Club:
Plymouth South Middle School has had an afterschool community service Club participating in the Cranberry Area Hospice's Annual Festival of Trees since our school opened in 1999.
Tree Motifs:
1999- Star Light, Star Bright, First Star I "Sea" Tonight- a tree decorated in our newly elected school colors of green and gold ornaments that depict our oceanside location with starfish, shells, and the like.
2000-An Apple for the Teacher- red and gold apples with teachers names on them, Mortar board topper, and special memorial tribute to
cherished 6th grade teacher Mrs. Mary Corcoran who gently brought out the best in
every child.
2001- The First Responders Tree- Honoring all first responders to the 911 Tragedy with symbols to represent nurses, doctors, EMTs, police
officers, firefighters, chaplains, Navy, Army, Coast Guard, Air Force and all military
personnel, and everyday heroes
2002-The Artists' Tree- a Nantucket basket of paintbrushes as a topper, minis of masterpieces, paint spatterd ribbon
2003- Sounds of the Season- silver instruments and sparkling CDs with holiday hits listed
2004-Love Multiplies! - a mathematical motif of gold geometrics and tools: pencils, protractors, calculators, all in memory of beloved Principal
John Trovato who opened PSMS in 1999.
2005- The Sledding Party- wooden radio flyers, cups of steaming hot cocoa, mittens, boots, hats, all in memory of our wonderful afterschool
custodian Alan Cavicchi. Whether a child was afterschool to do extra exemplary
art work or serving a disciplinary detention, Mr.Cavicchi has just the right w
words of encouragement.
2006-Of the Tree, On the Tree- Everythng of wood, with assistance from the Woodchucks of Plymouth, in memorial tribute to one of the
Founding Woodchucks, Lenny Barbieri
2007-As the Season Unfolds-Gold, silver, and red origami ornaments done with Mrs. Joy Burn's Origami club
2008-Bubbling Up with Holiday Joy- an undersea theme with a whale spouting silver sparklers suggested by student Lauren Pelzer
2009- A magical Hogwarts' Christmas-Magic wands. glasses, owls, lightening bolts, maps, broomsticks, golden snitches, dorm
scarves, and a sorting cap topper, inspired by the Pelzer family
2010- Some Have Been Visited by Angels Unawares" - a combining of career awareness, and aspects of civility with angels wings
and angels decorated with symbols of diverse careers and roles in society
